What Market Tells Us

Competitive Analysis to Validate Assumptions and Reveal Opportunities

Aside from invitations from friends or a quick Google search, these were the go-to apps people relied on when looking for events. I analyzed Facebook, Instagram, Eventbrite, and Meetup to understand how they approach engagement and retention and their strategies revealed critical insights.

Personas

Designing For Real People, Real Lives

By diving deep into the diverse needs of event-goers, I defined three core personas that guided every design decision: The Event Hunter, The Occasional Joiner, and The Family Seeker. These archetypes became my North Star, ensuring the product speaks to real motivations, behaviors, and pain points.

As I Conclude

Social apps excel at driving event interest through influencers, user connections, and visible social proof, features that event apps often lack. If users can’t make an informed decision without leaving the app, the platform loses trust and conversion opportunities. If they’re not engaged before, during, and after an event, they’re less likely to attend, less likely to share, and less likely to return, weakening both user retention and event success rates.

My research revealed that without interactive elements, event apps are mostly used by ticket holders for basic information, not community engagement. By integrating features like event-specific comments, reviews, and organizer ratings, event apps can bridge this gap, fostering trust, relevance, and ongoing user interaction in a dedicated events-only platform. As a next step, I plan to introduce incentives such as cash points for participation to further boost engagement and information sharing.
